The Tournament is named “Fr. Benedict Furtado Basketball Tournament,” because Fr. Benedict was
a Salesian of Don Bosco, a priest who introduced Basketball in Goa. He built the first basketball
court in Panjim in Don Bosco, and was the first President of GBA (Goa Basketball Association). He
was responsible to start Basketball in Goa. The sport owes where it is today to Fr. Benedict
