DON BOSCO ORATORY FAQ'S
Hey, Oratory is not what you do to speak in Public. Neither is it only a place of Prayer – that is what ‘Oratory’ was referred to in the middle ages and in the religious circles. Don Bosco created the concept of a sacred space where every youngsters finds an opportunity for expression. In the salesian ambient the Oratory can be understood in a four-fold manner: Playground, Home, School, Church. Playground – a space where every sports facility possible is available. Home – He is found mingling among friends, making healthy friends, and creating a new home. School – a place where he learns skills and develops him/her self. Church – A temple where value is nurtured. Sanctity is made easy within the reach of the child/youngster.
Don Bosco is a christian Saint from Turin, Italy who lived in te 18 th Century (1815 – 1888). He was declared Saint by the Roman Catholic Church. He was a catholic priest who was a renowned educationist and Youth worker. He was acclaimed for his Preventive system of Education.
Every Salesian House has a oratory. Each has developed as per the facilities available. DBO Panjim was the first every Don Bosco oratory in Goa and the first initiative of the Don Bosco Fathers. Hence, there dedicated spaces for the Oratory in India. In Goa the other prominent oratories are, DBO Fatorda, Quepem, Parra.
First preference is to those who are young. However, we are open to all ages, creeds, religions, castes, etc. You could go to any other school, or no school. Or if you are a student of School, Higher Secondary, or College you are not automatically an oratory member. You need to go to the oratory office, do your registration, and get your Membership Card.
We are in an age where free has no value. We also have a lot of costs for electricity, water, facilities, equipment, etc. At the same time, we firmly believe like Don Bosco in Divine Providence. God gives us when we need. So, though we have a minimal fee for the use of the Oratory facilities and Memberships, if you have any issue whatsoever, just get a recommendation from any Salesian Priest/Sister, and you can pay what you are capable of paying. Money is not the Criteria for the use of the facilities in the oratory.
You need to go to the Oratory office or download the form from the website. Make the necessary payments in the office, direct transfer, etc. You will be given a receipt for every transaction. You can use the facilities immediately. Within One week you will be given the membership Card.
Yes, that you are poor, we will make every concession possible. For those of you who can afford, please be fair and just. Finally, we do give special benefits to members of the Oratory. Also, Members are given preference for events, and summer Club.
The Sports Coaching conducted in the Oratory are kept at a nominal fee. So no concession can be made. However, those deserving children/young who cannot afford, will be given scholarships and freeships with due consent of the oratory management.
Oratory is a space for recreation, so we are open on all holidays and Sundays. However, we do close on particular occasion that are of religious significance and complex dedicated to it. We are generally close half day (from noon) on Christmas, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
Yes, we regret this inconvenience. The commercial exhibitions helps the management to defray the enormous expenses of maintenance of the complex. This is our contribution to the management of Don Bosco Panjim. However, with the renovation project, we hope to provide a dedicated space for 365 days. During the exhibitions an alternate space will be made available. However, we need to inform you that as a policy, only 5 exhibitions are allowed per year to help promote more sports at the Oratory.
We have yearly memberships, Half Yearly Memberships, and trimonthly Memberships. The rates are available on inquiry at the office. Those who are not members can take a daily guest pass at the rate of Rs. 20. Guest pass is valid only for a day.
Since the fees are minimal, we expect you help us with the damages done. For any breakages, you have to repair the damage done. We understand the damage done in the heat of the game. Deliberate damage will result in a suspension from the oratory. Those who are found using the facilities without the membership or guest pass will be fined Rs. 200.
Fill the prescribed form in the office. Pay your registration fee. Your receipt is your entry for the first day. Your name will be enrolled on the register for coaching. You are registered.
Office timings are 9am to 1pm and 2.30pm to 5pm.
All academy coaching registrations are done directly with the Academy. Unless, the academy has given the full right to the oratory. Presently, Only the Skatemania and AOA Basketball registrations are done in the oratory.
Personal training or smaller group training is done presently in Skating, and Table Tennis. We will soon be opening this special facility to other sports disciplines. Please check on the site or with the office.
If classes are missed because of the oratory, or the coach, they will be made up for. If the classes are missed by you for any other reason, it will not be generally recovered. This is done at the discretion of the coach or the oratory schedule.
